I'm a big fan of Wiki technology, which has gone from "emergent" to "accepted" in the last couple of years. A wiki (derived from the Hawaiian term for quick) is essentially a small piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web content using any Web browser and no other special tools. Or, in one simpler description, a wiki is "the simplest online database that could possibly work." No HTML or programming knowledge is needed to contribute to a wiki. I think this is an engine that Play By Email can grow upon. A wiki seems to be the natural service to consolidate the many, many independent educational resources on pbem gaming that have been developed in the last few years. The beauty of it all is that one already exists.. on a server that is mature, developed and reasonably well-funded-- Boardgamegeek. Alas, it has nothing more than a few links right now (one of them back to the Emporium) but I think I can change that. So can you, and that's the beauty of it. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgamewiki/PlayByEmail Here's a good reference on Wiki Tech: http://www.brainstormsandraves.com/archives/2003/09/06/whats_a_wiki/ On Social Software... making the web a holistic approach towards education and information sharing: http://www.corante.com/many/20030801.shtml
