HANNIBAL:ROME VS CARTHAGE

This new version is provided to correct problems with the original. The original only used 2 zoom
levels, this one has the traditional 3. The place names on the original map were not readable due to
the poor quality of my old scanner. My new scanner is much better, but not good enough to withstand
the color reduction without fuzz and some illegibility of place names - but it's better!
It was scanned at 48 bit color but reduced to 8 bit color to reduce the gameset size.
Finally, the reduced bitmap sizes - smaller map, color reduction - fixes the biggest
problem with the original - the scrolling sucked! This one should scroll fast even on a modestly
configured PC.

NOTES:

1. The grid behind the visible map is mAde up of squares that are smaller than either the unit
or the spaces that the units reside in on the map. The matter of grid sizing was determined
by much trial and error and was a compromise since the original map was not based on
any regular grid pattern. Consequently, each space provides rather unique opportunities
for the placement of units and markers.
2. Because of this arrangement you need to make sure that the unit description window shows the
description of a unit before you attempt to select it. Just move your mouse until it shows - then
click!
3. The CUs have flip definitions that allow a 1 to flip to a 2 and a 2 to flip to a 3, etc
and finally a 5 will flip to a 1 again.
4. The two PC Markers have reciprocal flip definitions, as do the walled city markers and
Siege Point Markers.
5. The document "Strategy Cards.doc" lists all the Strategy Cards, who can play each, etc.
6. The Automatic Card Tracking System (ACTS) at "www.warhorsesim.com/acts" can be used to play
the Strategy and Battle cards, much as you would a dice server. This system works much better
than using ADC2 to play the cards, and I strongly recommend its use for PBEM of this game.
7. Use the dice rolling function of ACTS to randomly determine who the next two
Roman Consuls are by using their positions 1-7 (1-6 if designating an existing consul as proconsul)
at the top left hand side of the map board.
8. A copy of the 2nd edition rulebook is provided in "Hannibal2.doc".
This was obtained from the warhorsesim.com/acts site and was written by the original designer.
9. Plenty of spare CUs and PC markers are available in the force pools provided.
10. "Charts and Tables.doc" as well as other useful data contains all the information on the
map board in readable form.

ENJOY the game!
