ADC2 Gameset by Wayne Melnick (waynem112@msn.com)

BK:Normandy is one of my favorite PBEM games. I have waited since ADC2 came out for someone to do a gameset. There have been sets for other software programs but those programs were not as attractive to me as ADC2. So finally I got tired of waiting for someone else and put this set together myself. The biggest obstacle was creating a .bmp scan for the gameboard so the ADC2 would look like the real thing. Once that problem was behind me, it was simple to complete the gamepieces.

The game should play straightforward in ADC2 if you know the basics of ADC2. I will not attempt to create a tutorial here but limit myself to some of the features/omissions of the gameset.

The gameset is designed for most actions to be played at zoom level 3. That's where the scanned map shows up most clearly (using a larger map for zoom 2 would have bumped the zoom 2 size map beyond the limits of ADC2 so was not possible). Since the real play happens at zoom 3 I saved some time by including factors on the gamepieces only at zoom 3. At zoom 2 you will have to rely on moving the cursor over hexes to pull up these factors in the class values column. This is not unusual in a gameset and I think most people will get used to it. What may take a few tries to get used to is that in order to have pieces line up better with the printed boxes on the mapboard I made the gamepieces larger than the invisible "grid" underneath the mapboard. This means that one must be careful when aiming his cursor at a piece as the edges are actually overlapping adjacent squares and clicking too close to a piece's edge will actually miss the piece and highlight the adjacent square instead.

I have only ever played the standard week one scenario, never the campaign game. To save myself some time I have include an .ops file only for that game and not the campaign. All the gamepieces for the campaign are drawn so that if someone wants to import the info from the master.ops file and add the extra classes, flip definitions, and pieces, he can do so. Given my commitments it's not likely I'll get to this anytime soon and wanted to get the in everyone's hands for play of the standard game.

If you see any errors in the set, please let me know at the email address above.
