STALIN'S TANKS

This is a gamebox for Metagaming's STALIN'S TANKS game, the second entry in the tactical World War II wargame duo in the Microhistory series from Metagaming.  Stalin's Tanks is more complex than Rommel's Panzers, but not much.   ST introduces infantry, anti-personnel ratings, improved armor factors, improved gunnery factors, and Suicide Assaults.

This Gamebox is created using Dale Larson's excellent Play By Email utility, Cyberboard (the poor man's Aide De Camp!)

This gamebox is similar in many ways to the gamebox for Rommel's Panzers, but the tanks have extra ratings in Stalin's Tanks that you will have to devise for RP.  Including infantry from this gamebox into RP is fairly easy.  The gameturn sequence is identical, and I recommend you handle an email game in the following sequence.

Turn Sequence Game Action PBeM Action
First Player Turn The First Player is the active player Follow the next steps, saving and commenting as you go.
First Movement 1st player moves pieces on the mapboard. Save file
Stationary Fire 1st player resolves combat with units that did not move. Save file, email to Second Player
Defensive Fire 2nd player resolves defensive fire Save file, email to First Player
Mobile Fire 1st player fires any units that DID move. Save file.
Second Fire 1st player moves any of his units a limited distance. Save file, email to Second Player
Second Player Turn Repeat the sequence above, as if you are the First player Same as above, but 1st player is defender now.
Suggested PBeM sequence for Stalin's Tanks

You may come up with your own ideas about how to structure the email turn; this is only a suggestion.

The Action

actionST.jpg (63853 bytes)

The graphic above illustrates a very basic engagement in Stalins' Tanks.  A determined combined arms assault of Tiger 1 and 2s (supported by a platoon of Panthers coming down the road), is halted at a chokepoint (a mined bridge).  One of the Tiger 2s has come afoul of long ranged fire-- possibly the AT gun that has revealed itself on the ridge in the Eastern half of the map.  A platoon of Soviet Infantry rush forward in a suicide attack, only to be met at the river's edge by some equally determined Wehrmacht troops.  The flaming wreck and dead squad near the bridge attest to the violent nature of the quarrel.  Note (again, sorry about the fuzzy JPEG) the new terrain types (swamp, hills, woods) and the new information on the tiles.  I used background colors rather than circles and underlines on counters with this gamebox, mostly because it was too hard to put all that stuff on a counter without creating huge counters (and a huge gamebox).
