OPERATING POLICIES OF THE
a.k.a., the PBeM Emporium FAQ
This Site is FREE
- I receive no financial payments, commercial
consideration or any form of financial remuneration as webmaster of the Play
by Email Emporium. This is a free service for gamers, done in my spare
time, as a service to the gaming community at large.
Statement of Intent
will not intentionally violate copyright on this site. By
posting a file here you are explicitly stating that you have sought, and
obtained, permission from the publisher to post this file. If a
publisher objects to a file that demonstrates his intellectual property, I
will remove it immediately. Publishers, contact me at Hotspur@rocketDIEYOUSPAMMERDIEmail.com
(remove between "Rocket" and "Mail" to make "Rocketmail") if you have concerns
about a file you see on this site.
- All gamefiles submitted
to this site must include a statement with them concerning current copyright,
and permission to post the file publically. This file can be included in
the game file itself (as in Cyberboard), or, if this is not possible, included
as an ASCII TXT file.
- Certain publishers have
gone out of business and the owner of the current copyright cannot be
determined or reached for permission. In this case, you, as the gamefile
designer, MUST include a statement with the file stating that you have made a
good faith effort to contact the publisher to request permission.
This file can be included in the game file itself (as in Cyberboard), or, if
this is not possible, included as an ASCII TXT file.
- The file itself may NOT
include depictions of the game rules, beyond a few crucial charts neccessary
for playing the game. For example, a terrain chart or a turn track
are permissable (as they are usually on the mapboard) - but not a game
resolution chart like the CRT. Any chart, playing aid, or variant CRT
may not be included. Some of these items are available on the Internet
on other sites (such as Boardgame Geek or Web Grognards). I may link to
these sites if I find the information posted on those sites expands the play
of the game.
- Certain files had required a "Statement of Intent" in the
past. As this is not legal proof of ownership of a game, and just an
additional administrative step, I'm doing away with this system in the current
Emporium. If a publisher requests me to pull his gamefile, I WILL
respect his wishes.

Remote File Access:
many files on this site are posted to this server and can be
downloaded with no problems. However, some are not. Some file
links are to YahooGroup servers, which might require the interested user to
join the group to access the file. The Emporium takes no responsibility
for remotely hosted files, the servers upon which they reside, or the access
rights and responsibilities of these other institutions. If you have an
issue with a remotely hosted file, take it up with the administrator of that
system, not the Emporium webmaster. In ALL cases where a file is hosted
remotely, I will give some indication that the link is to a remote
server. If the file is hosted here and you still have difficulty
downloading, by all means contact me.

Actions or Requests are not allowed on this site
- Requests for
copying the rules for a game -- I'm sorry, you will have to go
elsewhere. I realize that there are many, many legitimate requests
from gamers who have lost games or parts of games in the past and just want
to fix their game to the point where they can play it. Understand that
this is an action that violates copyright on my part and I just won't do
it. I get countless requests like this-- please go to rec.games.board
or rec.games.board.marketplace or Ebay, Inc. to find the answer to your
